What is pag46?

PAG oil, or Polyalkylene Glycol, is a fully synthetic hygroscopic oil specifically designed for automotive air conditioner compressors. It is used in R-134a air conditioning systems to lubricate the compressor. These numbers refer to the viscosity of the oil, similar to 10W30 oil.

Correspondingly, can I use PAG 46 instead of pag100?

There is a difference in the viscosity (thickness) of PAG 46, PAG 100 and PAG 150. Plus, using anything other than the specified viscosity of PAG oil in systems that require it voids the warranty from many of those compressor manufacturers.

Subsequently, question is, is ND oil 8 the same as Pag 46? DENSO uses NDoil 8 for its R134a type refrigerant compressors, a PAG 46 oil. The new refrigerant type uses NDoil 12, also a PAG 46 oil but with additives specifically for the R1234yf type refrigerant. It can get confusing with the number of different compressors, each with a specific DENSO oil.

Also to know is, what’s the difference in PAG oils?

PAG oils are harsher than mineral oils, and may cause skin irritation and damage O-rings and seals. There are different viscosities of PAG oil being used by OEMs: PAG 46, which is the most popular; PAG 100, which is also common; and PAG 150, which is more rarely used.

What is air conditioning oil?

Compressor Oil Or Lubricant. Compressor oil is a necessary component in any air conditioning system that uses compressor in its compression system. They are used for lubrication, removal of heat and for sealing. Lubrication cooling is needed in reciprocating compressor as the piston compresses the refrigerant gas.

Do I need to add oil after evacuating AC?

Above all, only trained and licensed professionals should work on AC systems. That way, there’s no risk of doing any damage to the system, or letting refrigerant vent into the atmosphere. To answer the question title, yes, you will have to add oil to the new refrigerant.

Can you add too much oil to AC compressor?

While installing a new compressor or any other parts in your AC system, it is imperative that you add the correct amount of oil. If you add too much oil to the system, it may pool in various places of the system and can coat the inner walls of the evaporator and condenser coils.

What happens if I use the wrong PAG oil?

Using the wrong oil may allow current to short circuit back through the A/C compressor, creating a shock hazard. Mineral oil should only be used in older R-12 A/C compressors because R-12 will not mix with R-134 refrigerant. This can lead to poor lubrication and premature compressor failure.

Can 134a and r12 be mixed?

A: yes and no.. yes you can get a port adapter and put some 134a in the system but that doesn;t mean that it will work. chances are that the front seal is leaking and 134 will actualy leak faster then R12. as you use it the front seal “might” close up some.

What oil do I use for my AC O ring?

Re: A/C System – What oil to use to lube orings? If it uses R134a then use PAG oil (Polyalkylene Glycol) and if it uses R12 (old gas) then you can use mineral oil. If you use mineral oil on the O rings of an r134 system (they are usually green) they will dissolve and it will leak.

Does all 134a refrigerant have oil in it?

Yes there is oil in the system to keep the compressor lubricated. It is carried throughout the system in the refrigerant. It is usually added in when the system is charged.

What is PAG 150 oil?

Certified A/C Pro R-134a PAG 150 Refrigerant Oil With ICE 32 is a high viscosity PAG oil for R-134a automotive air conditioning systems. Product Features: High viscosity PAG oil for R-134a auto A/C systems; ISO 150 viscosity.

Do new AC compressors come with oil?

New, R12 Rotary compressors come with a full system charge of Mineral Oil, which is compatible only with R12 refrigerant. New 134a rotary compressors come with a full system charge of PAG oil, which is compatible only with 134a refrigerant.

How much oil does a car AC compressor need?

For a new compressor, look up the specifications of your AC system. An average car might use a bit of oil (4 oz. ) and two cans of refrigerant R-134a (12 oz.)

What type of oil do you use with r134a?

Polyolester oil (POE oil) is a type of synthetic oil used in refrigeration compressors that is compatible with the refrigerants R-134a, R-410A and R-12. It is recommended by experts as a replacement for hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs).

How do I know if my AC compressor is bad?

Symptoms of a Bad or Failing AC Compressor
  1. Cabin temperatures higher than normal. One of the first signs that a compressor may be having trouble is the AC no longer blowing as cold as it once did.
  2. Loud noises when the compressor is running.
  3. Compressor clutch is not moving.

What is oil charge?

As refrigerant is discharged from a compressor, so is a small amount of refrigerant oil. The required oil charge for a system is basically a factor of the amount of refrigerant in the system and the compressor’s oil pumping rate.

How do I add oil to my AC compressor?

How to Add Oil to an AC Compressor
  1. Hook the reclaimer to the high and low side valves on the air conditioning unit.
  2. Open both the red (high side and the blue (low side) valves on the front of the reclaimer.
  3. Remove the high and low lines from the air conditioning unit on the engine.

How much oil does an AC condenser take?

Typically, about an ounce of oil is required but consult your FSM. Then, install the new condenser with the mounting brackets. Step 5: Reinstall the AC lines.

Can you mix 134a with 1234yf?

R-134a and R-1234yf should not be mixed.

In some cases, mixing can be illegal.

What type of PAG oil should I use?

With R-134a, there are primarily three different viscosities of PAG oil being used: PAG 46, which is the most popular viscosity oil; PAG 100, which is also common; and PAG 150, which is not often used, but it is still required for a certain compressor used in some GM vehicles from the ’90s to the early 2000s.

Can you mix different PAG oils?

Its popularity coincided with the emergence of polyalkylene glycol (PAG) oil, which mixed well with the new refrigerant. However, because mineral oil and PAG oil are not to be mixed, another compressor oil was needed to bridge the gap.
